Roper St. Francis Healthcare has landed on another list of great places to work in the U.S. – April 2024

Becker’s Healthcare recently named the system to its 2024 list of 150+ top places to work in healthcare. The Becker’s Healthcare listing stated that organizations on its Top 150+ list offer resources necessary for work-life balance, along with opportunities for community involvement, and stress social responsibility.

Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital and Roper St. Francis Berkeley Hospital both have been honored as Blue Distinction Centers for Maternity Care for safely and effectively demonstrating expertise in delivering quality specialty care. Blue Distinction Centers are nationally designated hospitals that show expertise in delivering improved patient safety and better health outcomes, based on objective measures that were developed with input from the medical community.

Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital named Leapfrog ‘Top Hospital’ for third year – December 2023

Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital has been recognized as a Top General Hospital by The Leapfrog Group – the only facility in the Charleston region and one of only two in South Carolina to receive the honor for achievements in patient safety and quality.

Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital was recently named to the inaugural list of America’s Best-In-State Hospitals 2024. The ranking by Newsweek and Statista was created to identify the top hospitals at the state level. Hospitals from all American states were eligible for the ranking and included in the nationwide survey.

Roper Hospital a top facility for critical care – October 2023

Roper Hospital was recently named among the top facilities for critical care, according to Healthgrades. Healthgrades evaluated hospitals for superior clinical outcomes in treating pulmonary embolism, respiratory system failure, sepsis and diabetic emergencies.

Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital honored as World’s Best Smart Hospitals – September 2023

Newsweek recognized Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital as one of the World’s Best Smart Hospitals – the only hospital in South Carolina to receive the distinction. As a partnership between Newsweek and Statista, the 2024 list honored 330 hospitals worldwide that are leading the field in smart technologies and reinforcing their reputations as providers of high-quality medical treatment.

Roper St. Francis Healthcare achieves double distinction as a great American employer – September 2023

Roper St. Francis Healthcare has achieved two distinguishing designations, solidifying its status as both a Great Place to Work and one of America’s Best Employers. The healthcare system ranked No. 2 on the America’s Best Employers list for South Carolina for the second year in a row, according to 2023 results released by Forbes magazine. Also the first healthcare system in South Carolina to be certified by Great Place To Work, a prestigious designation based entirely on what teammates said about their working experience.

Roper Rehabilitation Hospital has been honored by Newsweek as one of the America’s Best Physical Rehabilitation Centers in 2023 by Newsweek. Roper Rehabilitation Hospital ranked No. 1 in the Charleston area and No. 2 out of seven recognized facilities in South Carolina.

Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital named South Carolina’s most socially responsible hospital – July 2023

Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital recently was recognized as the most socially responsible hospital in South Carolina by the Lown Institute’s Hospitals Index for Social Responsibility. The Lown Institute is a nonpartisan healthcare think tank. Annually, it evaluates over 3,600 U.S. hospitals using more than 50 metrics that encompass equity, value of care and patient outcomes.

Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital was recognized as one of America’s Best Cancer Hospitals in 2023, according to Newsweek Magazine & Statista. The America’s Best Cancer Hospitals ranking was created to provide patients and family members with a comprehensive resource for informed decision making.

Roper St. Francis Healthcare hospitals win Get With The Guidelines awards – July 2023

Roper St. Francis Healthcare’s hospitals were awarded Get With The Guidelines awards for meeting a high percentage of compliance for stroke quality measures. Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital, Roper Hospital, Roper St. Francis Berkeley Hospital and Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital each received the American Heart Association’s Get with the Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus award. The recognition signifies that each hospital complied in seven areas of of stroke care for more than 24 consecutive months.

Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital has been named one of the “Great Hospitals in America” by Becker’s Hospital Review. It’s the only hospital in South Carolina to be honored among the 83 facilities on the list. Becker’s Hospital Review describes BSSF by saying, “The Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital comprises numerous Centers of Excellence, including neuro-spine, stroke and orthopedics, as well as the Roper St. Francis Cancer Center. The 190-bed facility also provides a distinguished Magnet-certified nursing program. In 2023, the hospital was recognized by Newsweek as one of the World’s Best Hospitals"

Roper Hospital has been named a a Blue Distinction Center+ for cardiac care, which is a recognition of its expertise and efficiency in the delivery of that care.

Roper St. Francis Healthcare ranked No. 2 on the America’s Best Employers list for South Carolina, according to results released by Forbes magazine. The list was created by surveying 70,000 Americans who worked for companies with at least 500 employees. The list highlights the 1,382 employers receiving the most recommendations.

Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital maintains five star rating for overall performance – August 2022

For the second consecutive year, Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital is the only acute care hospital in the Lowcountry to earn the highest possible rating for overall performance from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital earned five stars in the Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings. It was one of only six hospitals statewide to earn five stars and among just 429 nationwide to do so.

Roper St. Francis Hospice and Home Health receive national patient satisfaction honors – August 2022

Roper St. Francis Healthcare Hospice and Home Health programs have been honored for their high patient satisfaction scores in 2021. Both Home Health and Hospice were recognized by Strategic Healthcare Programs as “Superior Performers” for achieving an overall caregiver and family satisfaction score that ranked in the top 20 percent nationally.

Roper Hospital rose to the No. 2 ranked hospital in South Carolina by U.S. News & World Report in its 2022-2023 Best Hospital rankings. In addition, Roper Hospital’s rehabilitation specialty ranked among the nation’s best at No. 43, and the hospital earned a High Performing rating for twelve procedures and conditions.

Spark! Awards by Charleston American Marketing Association – October 2021
Roper St. Francis Healthcare has been named the winner of two categories in the annual Spark! Awards. The awards are the premier marketing event of the Lowcountry recognizing creative and marketing excellence. After receiving hundreds of submissions in 20 categories, fellow AMA chapter, AMA Tahoe, judged and casted their votes for finalists and winners. Roper St. Francis Marketing Department won for best corporate blog and best corporate identity.

For the third time, Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital has been honored with the Pathway to Excellence Award, which is given to organizations deemed the best places to work for nurses with high nurse satisfaction and retention. Organizations must meet 12 practice standards essential to an ideal nursing practice environment to qualify for the award.

Roper St. Francis Healthcare made a national Top 25 list and earned an “A” grade for being socially responsible when it comes to civic duties, patient outcomes and value of care. Lown Institute, a nonpartisan healthcare think tank, compiled the nationwide ranking of 311 hospital systems and 3,282 hospitals and ranked Roper St. Francis Healthcare as No. 24 in the hospital systems rankings. Roper St. Francis Healthcare ranked No. 1 in South Carolina in the hospital systems category and Roper St. Francis Berkeley Hospital earned an A grade and was ranked No. 3 in the state in the individual hospital rankings.

Roper St. Francis Healthcare was honored with the Employer Choice Award by Southeastern College in appreciation of our commitment to and partnership with the college. Roper St. Francis Healthcare began accepting the school’s student in October 2020 and has hired 70 percent of its externs.

Roper Hospital honored as high performing hospital by US News & World Report – July 2021

Roper Hospital was one of 531 hospitals to be identified as a Best Regional Hospital, which had to have six or more ratings of high performing in procedures/conditions and offer a full range of general medical and surgical services. The downtown hospital was considered high performing in eight procedures/conditions, including colon cancer surgery, lung cancer surgery, heart failure, aortic valve surgery, kidney failure, strokes, heart attacks and knee replacements.

Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital selected by Newsweek as one of the World’s Best Smart Hospitals – June 2021

The list of hospitals announced on June 9 spans the globe and totals 250 hospitals. Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital was the only hospital in South Carolina to win the award. A total of 89 hospitals in the United States were selected. This award is given to hospitals that integrated new technologies such as telehealth services and remote monitoring and used real-time data to allocate resources where needed most.

Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital and Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital earned “As,” Roper Hospital earned a "B," and Roper St. Francis Berkeley Hospital was not rated yet in the latest patient safety rating from Leapfrog Group. Grading is based on an expert analysis of 27 patient safety metrics, including prevalence of certain infections; problems with surgery; practices used to prevent errors; safety problems; and responsiveness of doctors, nurses and hospital staff.

Roper Hospital, Bon Secours St Francis Hospital and Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital each received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get with the Guidelines – Stroke Quality Achievement Awards. Roper Hospital and Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital received the GOLD PLUS, TARGET: STROKE ELITE HONOR ROLL Quality Achievement Award. Bon Secours St Francis Hospital received the GOLD PLUS, TARGET: STROKE HONOR ROLL Quality Achievement Award. All three hospitals received recognition of TARGET: TYPE 2 DIABETES HONOR ROLL.

Roper Hospital has been named a high performing hospital by US News & World Report in five areas. The areas highlighted include colon cancer surgery, heart failure, aortic valve surgery, hip replacement and knee replacement. U.S. News evaluated 85 hospitals in South Carolina, and Roper Hospital ranked No. 5 in South Carolina overall.

Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital becomes first hospital in South Carolina to earn third consecutive Magnet designation – April 2020

Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital has earned its third consecutive Magnet designation – a national recognition that serves as the gold standard for nursing practice. The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program distinguishes hospitals that meet rigorous standards of nursing excellence and demonstrate professionalism, teamwork and superiority in patient care. Only 2 percent of hospitals have earned this designation three times, and Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital (BSSF) in West Ashley is the first in South Carolina to achieve a third Magnet designation.

Roper Hospital and Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital earned five out of five stars for overall hospital performance on ratings updated this week  by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. These two were the only two hospitals in the Lowcountry to earn five stars.

Roper St. Francis Healthcare has been named a Top 15 Health System for the fifth consecutive year by Truven Health Analytics. The ratings evaluated publicly available government data on measures that include wait times in the emergency departments, complications and lengths of stay. The 2017 study analyzed 337 health systems and 2,924 hospitals that are members of health systems. Roper St. Francis Healthcare is one of just eight hospitals or healthcare systems nationwide to have earned this honor for five years or longer.

Two of Roper Rehabilitation Hospital’s programs earned the world’s highest certifications for rehabilitation facilities, bringing its total number of certifications to six. The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities awarded Roper Rehabilitation Hospital accreditation in outpatient brain injury specialty and spinal cord system of care services. Roper Rehab Hospital also was re-accredited for its inpatient brain injury specialty program, spinal cord system of care, stroke specialty program and comprehensive inpatient hospital program.

Bon Secours St. Francis and Roper hospitals cleaned up in another round of quality awards. Both hospitals received the “highest” quality marks possible in seven categories in the 2015 Comparison’s CareChex Hospital Quality Ratings. In most of the categories, Roper and/or BSSF outscored the Medical University of South Carolina, East Cooper Medical Center and Trident Medical Center. BSSF scored the highest rating in the following CareChex categories: Overall Hospital Care, Medical Excellence, Gastrointestinal Hemorrhage and Major Bowel Procedures. Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital has been recognized by the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP) as one of 52 ACS NSQIP participating hospitals that have achieved meritorious outcomes for surgical patient care. 

Magnet recognition from American Nurses Credentialing Center - Bon Secours St. Francis -August 2015
Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital retained its magnet recognition with the American Nurses Credentialing Center. It is the second time the hospital has achieved the recognition. ANCC’s credentialing programs certify and recognize individual nurses in specialty practice areas and recognize health care organizations that promote nursing excellence and quality patient outcomes while providing safe, positive work environments, according to its website.
